If I bought something from one store, can I return it to a different one?

I received a Wii for easter and I don't want it anymore and they bought it at circuit city but there is not a circuit city around here, could I return it to another store like walmrt or target without the receipt and get a gift card or something? Or will the barcode show it was not from their store?

If I bought something from one store, can I return it to a different one?
They scan all Items into inventory so i believe they would know if it wasn't purchased at their store.

Try telling them that you purchased it at a Walmart in a different city. And see what they say. Take your drivers license with you
Reply:Go to CC web site ask them what to do.
Reply:yes you could the problem is you would get a gift card that is only usable in that particular store. So they do not mind taking it because they know you will spend the money in their store. The problem with some of these stores is they will only give you the lowest sale price from the month
Reply:yes you can, they will know you didnt buy it at that paricular store, but yes you can
Reply:This is unethical since you've had the thing well over any reasonable return period. With that being said, yes you could return it to any store and probably get a gift card. You could probably make more money by selling it on Ebay or listing it in your local paper since Wii are still in short supply in many places.
Reply:They will never know but it is not honest. It is possible that they may have a record of serial numbers but the return desk would not check that. I have always wondered if they could come back a week later and ask for the money back.
Reply:The numbers wouldn't match up so unless you want to look like an idiot, don't do it. Find a Circuit City in another town, go there, return, simple as that. Driving the distance will be worth that kind of cash. OR sell it on ebay.
